Vampire Knight manga chapter 80 scans + comments etc. ^^

Hi everybody~!♥ :D *crawls out from under busy RL*

Things are still super busy in my RL, so I'm still on my mini-hiatus. (This is actually the first time I got to drop by my LJ since last month's VK post, and I didn't get to reply to anyone yet, sorry! D:)

But I got to buy LaLa, and so here I am for a post with scans + summary with translated bits of the most important lines + my comments about the chapter as usual. ^^/
(There's a bit less fangirling than usual because I'm typing this while very tired, but there's still fangirling too, of course. XD)

Click to see it bigger.
^^

The frame with Yuuki and Zero was normally really wide, so I cut it to put them closer, but it's totally accidental that my editing of the scans to make the sneak-peek above ended up making it look like Yuuki is at the perfect height reaching to grope Zero. XD *LOL*
Although it was perhaps an instinctive slip? XD *perverted fan, wished there were images in the chapter to make Zero grope Kaname also* XD

I SHIP ALL THE PAIRINGS COMPOSED OF THE MAIN TRIO, SO PLEASE NO DISSING ANY OF THEM. ;_;

----------------------

I'm rushing by, so sorry if the order of events described goes more by order of characters showing up than always in a very organized manner, and if the ramblings are a bit chaotic. ^^;
But if you're still interested in the summary + translation of the main lines they say, and in reading my comments and ramblings etc., here we go. ^-^/

The chapter has very very few action but is mostly composed of moeable stuff for some pairings, particularly Takuma x Sara, Cain x Luca (or Kain x Ruka if you prefer the fan spelling over the official spelling), day-class-guy x Luca (XD) and by the end a very sweet moment of Yuuki x Zero, and then Yuuki leaving the school to go after Kaname. (Presumably to try and convince him to stop his current plan, rather than for fanservicey scenes, but hey, one can hope there will be a bit of those too for both of the pairings hopefully. 8D *wishes there would be fanservice for Zero x Kaname as well... T^T Their meeting was so short.)

There's some drool-worthy shots of Zerorin and Kana-chan. 8D (Sadly, not together. T___T But still, looking hot.)

And the surprise pairing in this chapter is Takuma x Kaname. XD The chapter talks about their relationship in a way that actually was surprising, despite how much I love to look for yaoi pairings in VK. Considering that LaLa is a shojo magazine and a very conservative one, and that VK is already really pushing things on so many taboo subjects, the way the manga talks of Takuma & Kaname in this chapter is probably as close to a guy x guy relationship as we'll get in VK. XD

You might remember, in one of the previous chapters, there was an interesting scene in which Yuuki talked to Takuma about the fact he loves Kaname, and Sara got really angry and jealous, and with the way Yuuki and Sara were talking about it, the whole thing was presented in a rather romantic way rather than friendship only, when it came to Takuma's feelings for Kaname... XD
It had seemed like it might just be fanservice only for fun then, but with this chapter now, one can wonder. 8D

Basically, Takuma is coming to the conclusion that he has a possessive desire for Sara to be the one pureblood that will belong only to him, and that's something he didn't get to have with Kaname, but he's saying that he's feeling for her the way he felt towards Kaname (or at least, Sara has him convinced that he feels that way for her... it being Sara one can always wonder. ^^;;)

Sara also mentions that it's not out of his own intentions like he thinks but because, according to what she says, the other vampires are like moths inevitably attracted to the flame purebloods are.
Takuma concludes he was always attracted to Kaname that way (desiring Kaname's blood also), but with this whole thing going on one can wonder if he will really stick with Sara and be truly in love with her, or stand apart from them all, or try to avoid a fight between Kaname and Sara, or what, in the end.

In any case, when Kaname did come into Sara's room with his sword out (no, fellow pervs, not that way XD *lol*) and show intention of possibly attacking Sara, Takuma stood between them and told Sara to leave due to the danger. Kaname was the one who left instead. (Possibly to avoid having to fight against Takuma, although Sara claimed to her harem girls and Zero that Kaname had fled because they came in! XD Though it was probably only to try and pull Zero into her group more, or simply to flatter her harem girls... Considering Kaname had met Zero in the previous chapter already, it's unlikely he fled only for that, unless maybe he thought Zero might side with Sara.
But as Yuuki had noticed in the previous chapter, this was not truly Kaname in person, it was only a part of him turning into bats etc., so even if he had stayed he wouldn't have died. So The reason he left must have been to avoid a fight with Takuma, and not because Zero and Sara could have caused serious damage, since all of Kaname wasn't there.
One can wonder if perhaps, Yuuki knowing Kaname better and having drank so much from him, was why she could know it wasn't him, and perhaps in the brief time he was in the room, Sara didn't realize maybe.)

But uhm, let me get back to the start of the chapter since the stuff above is skipping directly to the part with those three and there was other stuff before also:

The chapter starts with Luca narrating, in a flashback back to the moment after Kaname showed Yuuki his past as the ancestor.

Apparently, it was right at that moment that he decided to go on his plan to kill all the purebloods, and revealed it all to Luca.

Knowing that he took that decision immediately after reliving all those past memories and pain/loneliness/etc., and after showing it all to Yuuki, makes me wonder if perhaps it wasn't a decision taken in the best state of mind. I can't help wondering if maybe he would have decided otherwise if he hadn't just relived all that pain. Then again, he had gone through so much angst over that past year, especially as he convinced himself more and more that Yuuki wasn't happy just being with him. Kaname being his usual self-sacrificing self, especially when it comes to loved ones, he ended up coming up with this whole mess to try and fix it up. D: *hopes Yuuki can knock some sense into his head*

But back to it, Luca decided to help Kaname with his plan, despite the fact she wasn't happy with the whole situation, especially right after she had finally reassured herself that he would be okay since he was with Yuuki.

Although we can see that Kaname isn't telling her quite everything, since she asked about what would happen with Yuuki and Kaname simply said she would cause difficulty for the plan he'd told Luca of, but he didn't mention the thing Cross and him had talked about before (Kaname's plan to kill himself to make Yuuki human again, that he's had since he was a child).

Luca says that if Kaname was going to go on such a path (killing the other purebloods) despite how obviously he cares for Yuuki, then he should have just abandoned Yuuki at the school as a human. Luca doesn't know that Juri's spell would have eventually failed and destroyed Yuuki (as we saw before in the manga, with it nearly driving Yuuki mad when she tried to recall her memories), so she doesn't know Kaname had no choice about having to turn Yuuki back to pureblood.
And from the angsty way Kaname was looking while he hugged Yuuki tightly to his chest and caressed her head while she's unconscious, in the flashback in this chapter, you can wonder if during that scene he's maybe thinking about the idea of killing himself to turn Yuuki human again, which would definitely be a part of the plan that he couldn't tell Luca about, since if he did, she would perhaps not help in such a plan.

That scene was so angsty and powerful and gave me the feeling that he might be thinking about this then, reinforcing the idea that Kaname's plan is indeed as the other chapters have implied, that he wants to kill all the purebloods and then kill himself, turning Yuuki human and leaving her a world free of the danger of purebloods or of anymore humans being turned etc. ^^; It's not openly said, but there's all the tidbits from the previous chapters like that talk with Cross and the fact that already back when Kaname was the ancestor he had tried to throw away his life to save mankind from the purebloods (volume 14). That feeling really comes to mind when you see that angsty look while he's holding her, even more so with Luca's mention of Kaname should just have left Yuuki at the school.

Luca accepted to help him in his plan to kill the purebloods, but maybe she would not have accepted if she had heard of a plan that involves Kaname killing himself, so that would explain why he couldn't mention anything like that to Luca.

In any case, we know that Luca and Cain are good people, so the fact that they willingly accept to help Kaname with this plan is a clear proof that there's more to it all than meets the eye. If Kaname's plans were "evil", those two, who are good people, would not help him like they have been doing. ^^

Not only that, even! Luca mentions in this chapter, that after Kaname revealed his plan to her, she volunteered to help him.
It wasn't even a matter of him asking them to follow him, she says she offered to be his accomplice in the whole thing.

She wouldn't have done that if his plan was evil. And Cain wouldn't have followed either.

And also, in the current chapter, Luca mentions to Cain that she believes there was no need for them to run away, "since Aidou would understand/accept it if they had talked to him", she says. ^^
So... I wonder if there's perhaps more stuff we don't know of yet (possibly about why it's a necessity to destroy the purebloods for the protection of mankind/Yuuki/etc. or something like that), and that might maybe explain why Luca thinks even Aidou would accept Kaname's plan then.
I await whatever it is they will reveal, if/when something about that is finally revealed. ^^

So anyway, the plan might not be as terrible as some think. Sure, it involves bloodshed, but with the exception of the Kurans, of which only Kaname and Yuuki are left, we have not yet met a pureblood that was actually truly innocent/not a danger to others. (Isaya is a big question mark, as we haven't seen him expressing violent desires but he did mention the possibility to Yuuki, and besides, Kaname went to his place but didn't kill him, so maybe he would be spared?
In fact, Kaname didn't kill even Touma, despite the fact Touma clearly is one of the violent purebloods.)

Sometimes I wonder if Kaname is perhaps not delaying things in hopes someone will off him instead, before he gets to really have to kill all the purebloods. :-S

Logically, he would have to kill the purebloods without sparing any, because leaving any (other than Yuuki, who would be turned back human), would make the whole cycle start over again. Only by not leaving any left, they could be 100% sure mankind and Yuuki would be safe from anyone turning them etc., but Kaname is at heart a kind and gentle person and doing it must be terribly painful. ^^;

There are so many little details throughout the manga, that remind me of the older chapter in which Takuma mentioned that Kaname feels so much guilt that he's constantly burning in his own personal hell, looking for ways to punish himself. In the recent chapters, we see that even more clearly in the physical aspect as well: the way Kaname always holds onto his anti-vampire sword for far longer than necessary, purposefully harming his own flesh and causing himself additional pain, as if to punish himself for the things he's having to do for the sake of this plan. Remember after he killed Aidou's father? He was in the forest, holding onto the sword, and Luca even mentioned it/tossed the coat over his burning hand.

And in chapter 80, we see that he's let the sword burn him until there's nothing but bones left of his hand. He's still holding it with no flesh left on his fingers. :X

And that's not the type of pleasant pain that Kaname's masochistic side might enjoy receiving from Yuuki, this is just torture, purposefully done against himself, due to guilt, like Takuuma had said in that chapter a while back.

But back to the part with Cain and Luca, we see that while Kaname went to confront Sara, he'd asked them to protect the day class students. Luca is using her power (illusions) to cause the human students to be deeply sleep and not wander out of the building, so that they may not run into any danger outside, especially if Kaname and Sara had ended up fighting all out. (It wouldn't be surprising at all for Sara to do like Rido and try to feed on whoever comes by, especially if she was wounded. Or if there were any hot girls nearby. XD /perv)

So even though Kaname's plan could be said to be cruel by necessity towards the other purebloods, it is also filled with gentle details like making sure none of the human students gets hurt in the process. Others (Sara, Rido) might not have cared for such things, or worse, might have purposefully made sure to destroy the human students, like the vampire council had tried to when they had Rido attack the school.

During the part with Cain and Luca, we see what happens immediately after the moment when they had ran off after running into Aidou last time. Luca is protesting that they didn't have to run away since Aidou would have understood it if they had explained things to him, but Cain doesn't think it would be so simple and also says he doesn't want Luca to go through anymore exhausting things at such a moment.

At which point, Luca shoves Cain off and tells him not to treat her like she's a weak woman.

Luca is really one of the main stars in this chapter, along with Takuma. She truly shines, and is such a wonderful female character, so powerful and beautiful. Cain is lovely in his support of the woman he loves, but I just find it so awesome how Luca really shines throughout the chapter, standing up for her decisions and being such a strong female character. :D (Not always a frequent thing in manga...)

In contrast, it's a huge shock to see in this chapter that Sara, who was the big "I'm going to be queen of the world" female villain until now, all of a sudden seems to weaken and possibly even threaten to become a typical "huh, nevermind, I just want a man to love" shojo manga character. D: (Well, she could be just faking it. XD)
There's a rather strange part on that later in the chapter, although she could just be messing with Takuma... And in any case, she still seems to be in between those two, but it was surprising from Sara anyway.

So that makes Luca's shining and epic moments all the more remarkable, for some reason. ^^

Luca admits to Cain that yes, she is a bit exhausted by the immensity of it all that they're doing/helping do, but that she doesn't want Cain noticing her tired moments/being anxious about her.
In other words, she can stand for herself, she doesn't want him acting like he must protect her. She is his equal, and stands for her decisions, rather than needing a man to rescue her when she gets mentally exhausted from all that they're doing. ^^

I'm fangirling Luca so much at the moment. X3 *likes powerful female characters, wishes there was time to draw fanarts of her*

The scene in which she's talking to Cain is so lovely:

I hope all this lovely Luca time is not some build up for her dying horribly to torture us readers. ^^; (VK is a series that leaves us like scalded cats fearing cold water, haha... XD;;;)

While Luca is doing the thing to make the students in the Sun dorm stay deeply asleep, Cain notices that some of the had already gotten out of the building before Luca got to start doing that.

It is the usual suspects, Yori-chan, the girl dorm president, and the boy who loves Luca.

Yori and the girl were allowed to keep their memories, if you remember, but the boy's memory was deleted by the hunters. And yet, his love for Luca is so powerful that he breaks through the hunter charm and remembers her, after struggling!

At first, Luca says she doesn't know him, and he looks so shocked. XD *lol* But then, she blushes and thanks him for loving her so much that he managed to break through the charm, and there's this cute moment. XD She seems cutely embarrassed but thanks him before quickly turning around, maybe to hide her blush, and he blushes too... XD XD

Yori is also looking so lovely. :D

The chapter then moves into the heavier stuff. ^^

The chapter title is "Love declaration" and has a long section of that going on between Takuma and Sara (even though I'd so much prefer if the declaration was between Takuma and Kaname, or even better, Zero and Kaname. XD)

There's some lovely flashback images here and there, including one in which we briefly see Ichiou~! 8D~~~ *missed him and his sexy beard* XD;;;

(The messy grain is a flashback-implying screen-tone, not the scan itself. XD)

We also briefly see younger Kaname, as Sara is recalling the long time she's eyed from afar desiring to get Takuma. She always saw him by Kaname's side, smiling so much, and she wanted him for herself. (Odd considering she only seemed to reveal this after so long time in which her interest was apparently Kaname, but uhm. XD)

Takuma is recalling various things about his relationship with Sara, and mentions that everything Sara tells him, he can't help but hear it as warped love declarations. Or as statements of jealousy when she complains against him after mentions of his love for Kaname.

I worry because Sara is, well you know, Sara... and also because Takuma thinks she will truly be his, only his, and yet she's still there with her harem of girls despite the possessiveness she shows for Takuma, but well... ^^; Hopefully he won't get heart-broken.

Theirs is the most strange love triangle, in that it's not really a triangle at all since the love-feelings-mess is mostly Takuma and Sara. XD Takuma's feelings for Kaname, and Takuma's feelings for Sara... + Sara's clear interest in Kaname (in her fanbook bio, she openly lists Kaname when asked what's her type), and now Sara's interest in Takuma... but meanwhile, Kaname isn't interested in either of them romantically, so it's a triangle with only two sides and he's a foreign element to it. XD *lol*

Poor Shiki, but well, at least he can have Rima...? ^^;

The whole sequence about Sara's love declarations and Takuma's thoughts about it all are such eyecandy. X3 Such sexy looks!!

This chapter mentions that Sara grew up as an orphan too, btw. (It makes me wonder if that too was a similarity with Kaname that got Takuma attracted to her initially.)
Apparently, she lost her family when she was still a baby though, so she never had the trauma of the loss, but she must have grown up lonely.

There's a moment when Takuma makes a face of such deep satisfaction that it's almost creepy, when Sara reveals that there was no one other than him, that she wanted to have by her side, the way he used to be by Kaname's side.

The whole thing throughout this chapter, about how clearly it's mentioned that it's love between them, and yet it keeps being mirrored to the relationship between Kaname and Takuma, is epic. XD They probably couldn't be anymore obvious than than in a magazine like LaLa, when it comes to openly mentioning a guy having feelings for another that aren't just mere fanservice.

Of course, it's not openly mentioned that it was romantic between Takuma and Kaname, and one could argue that it would have remained innocent anyway since Kaname loves Yuuki, and since it could have been an adoring protectiveness and friendship on Takuma's part without evolving into a physical relationship even if Kaname had been interested in Takuma instead of Yuuki... but well, we'll never know if they'd have slept together or not. XDD *lol* (in a world without Yuuki etc., I mean.) XD /blunt

I just love how they keep openly talking of romantic feelings while mirroring it to Takuma & Kaname. XD *dies of happiness, wants to draw so much Takuma x Kaname fanservice* If only Zero x Kaname could become this canonically blatant!! 8D~~~~~~~~~ *nosebleeds to death to just think of it*

Then again, in a world without Yuuki, Kaname would be like he was in the ancestor times, so... totally dejected and just letting himself pass out out there anywhere without any care for himself, so... perhaps bedding him wouldn't be that difficult. XD *is shot*

The angst in VK makes it so tempting to make pervy jokes to either lighten it up or also because the characters seem so angsty that they might either need that or maybe would feel like they have so little to lose that why not. XD; *wonders how far Sara and Takuma have gone, or whether Kaname was conscious when the Hooded Woman possibly tied him to the bed and did things to him* XD *rotfl*

*cough* Back to the serious matters... XD;

There's a surprising point in the chapter, when Sara mentions that she wants to be smarter than Rido or Shizuka (as she's mentioned before in the chapter when she spoke of her plan or taking the power and throne for herself), but this time there's a "but" to that statement, it's no longer just a "I will be smarter", it's now a "I want to be smarter"... but, and she says that she wants to have by her side someone who can talk back to her/bite back, rather than just offer sugared lies like the vampire council had to Rido and others. Hence her desire for Takuma.

It also mentions that it's like that with purebloods, once they do get attached to someone, that attachment becomes absolutely huge.

That statement had me fangirling SO MUCH!! XD
(You need not ask to know my mind was filled with images of ♥ Kaname getting more and more attached to Zerorin♥, hahaha~! XD<333 Oh, how I wish it would happen in the manga!!
*obsession, is starved for some Zero x Kaname and the huge lack of VK due to RL lately is not helping the starved feeling & craving fics etc.* XD; )

Btw, Takuma should be extra careful if this is her main wish, because if he decides to stand for Kaname, and what Sara wants is someone that would still dare to talk back to her... then she could well go and try to seduce Zero for that same purpose instead of Takuma. D:

She said Takuma was the one, and the whole thing about purebloods getting a huge attachment is playing on Takuma's side, but well... she is still clinging to her harem, and she is getting more and more close to Zero. Takuma should watch out.

(Not that our Zerorin would fall in love for Sara at this point, but well, Sara might break Takuma's heart if he puts his hopes in her love and she dumps him to go pursue Zero instead. ^^; )

Sara worms herself into Takuma's mind and heart so much that by the end of the love declaration etc. sequence, we have Takuma thinking of her words, that vampires are moths and purebloods are the flame that fascinates them, and concluding that she is right, that vampires are inevitably attracted by the blood of purebloods, that so is he, and that perhaps his relationship with Kaname was that too.

I really don't think it's as simple as that, Takuma's care for Kaname is genuine, or at least I hope it is. It would be so sad if it's true that all there ever was between them was Takuma desiring Kaname's blood and the situation presenting that attraction under the guise of friendship or more.(Although if it's the case, it would explain why Kaname always called him Ichijou instead of using his first name like Takuma does. Takuma says "Kaname", and Kaname never complained of the familiarity, but he always said "Ichijou" instead. Then again, that could be because Kaname has always been more formal with people other than Yuuki.)

There's a scene then, in which we see a younger Kaname and Takuma, Kaname looking depressed (it's almost bedroom eyes, but too angsty for that XD;), and Takuma grabbing onto Kaname's shoulder looking all cheerful, while we see curent-time!Takuma's thoughts with his conclusion that maybe this attraction of the blood was what made him be close to Kaname... it's so disturbing.

Takuma also says that the more he is taken with Sara, the more he realizes he was taken with Kaname. (The word Takuma used is, amusingly enough, the same word used in the title of Hino-sensei's old manga "Toraware no mi no ue", "Captive Hearts", for which Hino-sensei recently did a new illustration in celebration of LaLa's 450th magazine. *must scan it sometime when there's more time, forgot to this time around* ^^)

;_; *loves their friendship and finds it so sad if it's indeed only that* It would make Takuma a cheerful version of Ichiou (minus the plotting and murder attempts of course XD), if he really was so deeply interested in Kaname's blood rather than his heart. D: (Vampire nature and natural instincts or not. ^^; )

Hopefully it's not that, and Sara just has him convinced of it. ^^;;

Onto something disturbing also, during the sequence (some pages earlier) in which there's a flashback of when Sara got jealous because Yuuki said Takuma loves Kaname, we see Takuma ask Sara if he is only trouble for her now that she has no more use for him, since he already gave her all so much info about Kaname...! In other words, he really was giving her info about him, for real. (Well, we knew that before, but to see it confirmed so openly and conversationally is a bit shocking. ^^; )

It's also confirmed in this chapter that Takuma would have been able to just ditch Sara, since it's mentioned that he stayed by her side of his own will because he intended to watch over her/see what she might do. Although Sara says it's illusory for him to think it was truly of his own will that he made this decision, (since he would have stayed attracted by her/her blood: the part about moths and flames is just after that)... but since we saw that he could still do all sorts of things during that time period like sending the message to Yuuki asking her to take care of Kaname etc. back during the party, it's pretty clear that attraction or not, Takuma could have just ditched Sara. Especially since that was before he drank even more of her blood and possibly got even more attracted by her.

In any case, I hope there won't be any fights between him and Kaname. Kaname probably knows that Takuma gave info about him to Sara, especially if Takuma is openly siding with Sara. ^^; I suspect that Kaname didn't go against Sara now simply because Takuma was shielding her, but a fight between Kaname and Sara would be difficult to avoid, and there's no knowing if Takuma will fight or not, and for which side. ^^; Even if Sara does nothing to coerce him to it.

The moment Kaname pulls out the sword, Takuma steps between them and tells Sara to leave, and then Kaname leaves instead, is epic, and sad but so beautiful. It's like a darker and more worrisome version of when Takuma stepped in to shield Shiki back when Rido was using Shiki's body. Back then it had made sense (we don't know if harming Rido in Shiki's body would have helped at all), but now it's so much more scary, especially since Takuma is genuinely protecting Sara, who is the enemy, and not some innocent victim pulled into it like Shiki had been. ;_;

Back with Rido, Kaname stopped his attack to not harm Takuma, but if he's fully siding with Sara willingly, they might and up having to fight. ^^;

The way Sara hugged Takuma after Kaname had left was also somewhat disturbing. Was it a genuine hug of love or...? The maneuver worked in any case, as we see from the surprised look on Takuma's face, but Sara's expression is harder to guess at. ^^;

In the frame when she hugged him, Takuma's thoughts were that he was like iron sand sucked towards a magnet.

Kaname reforms outside, in front of Luca and Cain, and Yuuki appears. For epic ominous vampire manga vibe, Hino-sensei had her show up with the Artemis open in hand (as if she'd harm any of them XD;), and Yuuki says "I found you..."

The scene quickly moves back to Sara, and oh surprise, rather than expressing any relief in the fight having been avoided, she is instead acting disappointed that Kaname escaped her trap... XD;;;

She says it's regrettable/disappointing that he has ran away, and right as she is saying that, Zero is walking into the room.

One can wonder what her plan was exactly, and if maybe she had hoped that Takuma might be a distraction and that Zero might finish Kaname, or what. The odds would certainly have been in her favor if Zero had stepped in, considering Kaname would have had to fight Sara and Zero while also having to deal with Takuma and not wanting to harm him or others either.

Although of course, I personally don't believe for one second that Zero would have accepted to participate in such a thing. If he was going to kill Kaname, he would have done it in the previous chapter. That he didn't, despite knowing that as a child Kaname opened Shizuka's cell-door, shows that Zero is a lot more mature and level-headed than a lot of people give him credit for. Actually, personally I think that both Kaname and Zero are terribly mistaken by so many of the fans. ^^; The people who think Kaname is some evil monster are terribly mistaken, and so are the people who think Zero is a ball of pure hatred who would or should kill Kaname. Zero dislikes Kaname of course, but he is a lot nicer than people often think, even if he's not always great at showing that. XD There were many many times throughout the manga that Hino-sensei used Zero to create suspense and drama with situations such as "will he try to kill Yuuki at the ball?!" etc. (and actually, she got a lot of flak from fans in Japan who waited for epic showdown fights that never happened), but after so many chapters and having seen this kind of thing done so often, I think we all know the characters better than that, no? XD
Zero is a lot more level-headed than so many people think when they say he should just off both Kaname and Yuuki. ^^; It's unfair to him when people think he could ever do such a thing to Yuuki especially, just how it's unfair when people purposefully ignore chapters and chapters of background info showing that Kaname has a gentle heart, and instead claim he is some kind of monster that he is not at all at any point of the story.

It's always the same with reactions induced by pairing-hatred or character-hatred, people end up viewing the other pairing or character unfairly, and it's depressing for those of us who love the various characters and the several pairings instead of only one or the other. ^^;

But I digress. Back to the current stuff, I think that if those two ever fight seriously, something pretty epic will have had to happen first to throw them against each other. It wouldn't just happen randomly all of a sudden like in this situation with Sara in the room. If Zero had wanted to fight Kaname seriously he'd already have done it. If they ever end up fighting for real, the build up to it would have to be a lot more epic than just a random room with Sara hoping crap might hit the fan for them. XD

Back to the current chapter, Zero quickly turns around to leave the room, but Sara then tells him she has a favor to ask.

She wants Zero to use his position at the Hunter Association to shield/shelter/hide her and her harem at the headquarters. (She would thus putting even more potential people in the way to strike down Kaname if he comes after her... though one can imagine how un-delighted Yagari & co. will be by the HA getting mixed in this. XD)

Shiki is shocked by the suggestion and calls Takuma, asking if Sara is serious, but Takuma stops his protests.

Sara then mentions that Zero wouldn't be doing this for free, she is offering to help him with his revenge if he will side with her and do that. O_o

Zero thinks of when Yuuki and him were outside earlier (previous chapter) and he'd pulled his hands back from holding her, and we see what we weren't shown in the previous chapter... 8D~
Immediately after they broke that hold, Yuuki reached and grabbed (almost yanked even) Zero's arm before he could leave, and already prepared the terrain before Sara could even start trying to do anything more. :D *loved that flashback right during Sara's approach, showing Yuuki was aware of what Sara is doing trying to get close to Zero, and was already planning to counter it* Good, Yuuki! You must defend your harem from any invasions, Yuuki! XD

Yuuki said she was leaving to follow Kaname's aura/find him, and asked Zero to protect Sara, but adding a "for now" at the end of the line about the protection of Sara. The emphasis is clear. :3 Perhaps, it's her way to ask Zero to watch Sara, rather than protect for real. ^^ Our Yuuki is growing up and not falling for Sara's tricks...

The hotness of that scene~!! (Usually it's Zero doing the whole arm grabbing thing, and it's uber-sexy, but it's lovely also when done by Yuuki~! ♥_♥ *melts happily*

In any case, right when one might worry that this would be dangerous since while Zero is "protecting" Sara, Sara would try to pull him to her side, Yuuki goes and flashes Zero one of her extremely "Yuuki" looks that are so loveable, and says that she has no worries for Zero. (In other words, she isn't worried that he will switch allegiances and team up with the enemy. I really don't think Yuuki would be saying that meaning she isn't worried/caring about something bad possibly happening to Zero, that's really not Yuuki. ^^ It seems more logical that the lack of worry would be about her not thinking he would become one of the enemies, and that this is what she's implying. :D
(I guess it could also mean that she is saying she is sure Zero will be okay but that Kaname might not be okay, hence why she knows she can rely on Zero to watch Sara but needs to go after Kaname to smack some sense into him or something. XD But given the context of Sara trying to pull Zero to her side and this flashback happening right there, I find it more likely that Yuuki's words mean that she is letting Zero know she trusts him too much to worry that he might join Sara's side.<3)

The 'not worried' scene and Yuuki's lovely expression:

I'll be so delighted if our little Yuuki grows into a strong heroine and kicks Sara's butt (ideally not killing her but delivering her into Takuma's arms somehow XD), patches together the mess of Zero's wounded heart and conflicted feelings about himself and vampires etc. etc., and drags Kaname back to a non-self-destructive path and patches the pieces of his heart as well. ^^
Then keeps her two beloveds from going at each other's throats. XD; Maybe she could take turns, live with one one week, the other the next, and so on... XD;;; *would love such a happy end if they can't have a full threesome* XD;

And even better if there was a threesome ending after all that stuff. X3 *can't help mentioning it, as it would be my ideal VK ending since it's the only way my beloved trio could all be happy* T^T

Before I digress into a long happy fangirling of the trio together all happy and with bonus Zero x Kaname yaoi XD;, let me go back to the chapter quickly. ^^

During the flashback, when Yuuki is telling she'll go after Kaname, Zero kind of gives her 'A Look' (XD), in response to which she reassures him saying it won't go the way it went a moment before (in the previous chapter, when the sight of Kaname prompted her to rush as if she was going to throw herself in his arms, talking of if he was there to take her back etc. XD).

If you remember, she had in the past promised that she would go after Kaname and convince him to stop what he's currently doing. So now she intends to do that, and is in quite the serious mindset after all this mess, so she's reassuring Zero that she will be able to stay serious and all.

Of course, because lately it seems Hino-sensei tries to use any moment possible to create additional angst and make things seem even more dramatic, she has Yuuki saying that Kaname too is a vampire, and that she knows all the weak points of vampires better than anyone... which of course would make people worry whether she's going after him to talk only or to hurt him (...kinky? XD *is shot*), but this is Yuuki... XD Even if she were to go after Kaname to hurt him, uhm, he would enjoy it. XD; *is shot again*

In any case, I wonder if she'll be able to follow his bats/alter ego shadow thingie, or if he'll ditch that if he doesn't want her to intervene yet. She caught up to that when he had reformed in the spot with Cain and Luca, so she could have maybe followed the two discreetly and tracked them back to Kaname instead. XD; *lol*
She is a pureblood, and she's much better at being one now than she once was, so maybe she could. ^^

In any case, hopefully she will be able to convince Kaname to get off that path either soon or in any case sometime before things get even more dire. ^^;

The flashback ends with Sara glued to her harem of girls (poor Takuma XD;) and asking Zero what he will do. He turns back to her looking sexy enough to melt the walls with his hotness (XD Seriously! It's not just my Zerorin-filled eyes, the faces he makes are amazing of hotness), and stretches out his hand to Sara, saying that he accepts.

Now, if that scene had happened just by itself immediately after Sara's offer, I'd be panicking that she might manage to worm herself under Zero's skin the way she wormed herself into Takuma's heart etc., (although I don't think Zero would fall for it like that, but you know, you can't help worrying when the characters you love are in such situations XD). But thanks to the flashback with Yuuki, I'm significantly less worried by Sara's approach now. Sure, she is extremely dangerous, but with Zero having the woman he loves having just pretty much told him that she trusts him so much she doesn't worry that he would join Sara, I really don't think he will fall for Sara's stuff. X3 At least, I think she'd have to try and trick him a lot more heavily to try and break through such heavy defenses.

In any case, as a whole I'm pretty shocked she managed to get this far with Takuma, but I really don't think she could ever pull the same stuff with Zero. I'm not saying anything bad of Takuma, but Zero is, well, Zero. 83 He is inevitably stronger.
Our Zerorin is pretty much the ideal person to resist Sara's manipulation, and with his feelings for Yuuki he is even more well protected.<3

The danger is that Sara knows of those feelings and might try to use it against Zero & Yuuki though. ^^; She has a better chance that way (convincing Zero that helping her would be the best way to avoid something bad happening to Yuuki or something), than she has of ever attempting a seducing act. Zero wouldn't be seduced by Sara, I think.
I also strongly believe that with Zero's integrity he would never give in to any plots if Sara were to suggest that uniting with her to off Kaname would give him better chances with Yuuki. He would never do that. Both Zero and Kaname care first and foremost about Yuuki's well-being, going as far as being self-destructive; neither of them would ever try to off the other to try and be with her. In fact, it's quite the opposite, both of them have the same tendency to self-hatred that makes them assume themselves unworthy of her, thus trying to push her towards the other. X3 They are both adorably self-sacrificial like that.<333

I think Sara's best shot would be at trying to push Zero into a situation where he would have to help her to protect Yuuki... or at least, making him believe he is in such a situation.
For the time being, she seems to be playing the Zero!revenge card instead, but hopefully she doesn't have a more effective plan than just that. I don't think Zero would go for that other than to make Sara think he's on her side. At least, I hope so. He really doesn't strikes me as the type of person who would team up with the enemy for revenge, especially a revenge killing someone so important for the person he loves.

But, of course, VK is always full of angst, so for now it's all looking dramatic, but Yuuki's expression and her saying she isn't worried really reassured me. :D Zero is far too smart to falls for Sara's traps in any easy way.

I'll finish the summary with the delightfully sexy look Zero had when he turned to accept Sara's offer. ^^

You have to admit, he is irresistibly hot. ♥_♥

-----

And lastly, please support our beloved VK!! ;___; Series die if people don't support them. (And by support, I mean actually spend money on the official stuff. That's what keeps series alive.
Our love for the series is a great thing, and in a way it's of course support too, definitely extremely important too, but money is necessary to keep people working and fed and all, so... it's inevitable that we need to buy things to support that which we love. ^^)

Please buy the volumes and support the series, so that you can also fully enjoy the complete experience of VK since Hino-sensei always adds all sorts of sexy things/more detailed screentoning/etc. etc. to the final versions of the chapters. :D
The magazine versions are always somewhat incomplete, as she adds retouches later. :D So if you buy the books, not only you'll be supporting the series, but also you'll het to see a much more beautiful and complete VK than if you just look at incomplete scans. :D ♥

The full sexiness of Zero and Kaname can only be experienced by people who support the series, since only by buying the books do you get to see it all!! 8D *lol*

And because whenever a new chapter comes out, tempers in the fandom flare really ferociously, and there's people who can't control themselves from bashing characters/pairings or attacking other fans for either liking a different pairing (or more than one) or even simply for whatever they perceive as a slight even when it's not, I'll continue having the comments screened for now.

That simply means that each time a comment is posted, it gets put on a waiting list before it becomes public.
That makes that all normal comments will go through and get posted (they just have to wait a bit before showing up publicly), but any comments bashing a pairing, a character, doing personal attacks or whatever, will be able to be caught rather than get posted right away and just cause fights.
In the past, there have been issues with people posting anon doing personal attacks (as if making up things to attack people's sexuality had anything to do with VK or could in any way be considered something other than trolling ^^; ) and people trying to cause trouble between fans of different pairings etc./encouraging pairing-flame wars etc., so for the time being I'll be using this LJ feature to hopefully make that things stay peaceful and people don't bait others for flame wars or anything. ^^;

Sadly there's no way to implement a simple list of keywords like homophobic slurs etc. that would automatically block basic hate comments (especially because it's trickier than that when it's against pairings or characters), so we have no choice but relying on LJ's screening/waiting-list feature, and I'll just unscreen stuff as soon as possible. ^^/ ♥

So please don't worry about that, just go ahead and talk about the chapter and fangirl at will, and all your comments will be turned public regularly whenever possible. :D (Each time I get to log in and hit the unscreen button and make them all public.)

-----

I almost forgot, here's also the teaser image for next month:

Yuuki holding a kitten!! :D

The head beneath is unfortunately not Zero, just some light-haired guy from some other series. ^^

For a moment, I had stared at the pic and gone "??? Is she holding food?" then realized it was a tiny kitten!! X3 The kitten is even reaching for her face with one of the paws~!<3

It gives me so many urges to draw more of the kitty!vk pics I had been doing (like the one at the top of my current LJ layout X3), of kitty!Zerorin and kitty!Kana-chan getting adopted by Yuuki. X3 ♥♥♥
Now I just gotta find time to draw some fanart. ^^;

The teaser line is as obscure as ever, saying "Kaname and Sara, Ichijou and Sara, Akatsuki and Luca... Yuuki is/will?!"

Makes me wonder if the mention of Kaname and Sara implies the battle between them might finally happen soon or if it's to hint that Sara is still interested in Kaname, but then again, whenever I see any teaser lines like that for VK, I am always reminded of the one from a long time ago claiming that Zero and Kaname would fight to the death at the academy, which ended up with nothing more than Zero tearing Kaname's hand off and Yuuki separating them... XD *resists the extreme temptation to launch into much fangirling of tentacle!vines and the deliciously yaoi potential of Zero going kinky on Kaname with his vines* 8D

I MUST find time to one day finally draw proper/worthy fanart of Zerorin going wild with his vines, preferably in uber!kinky and sexy yaoi with Kana-chan. X33

And lastly, the Chinese scanlation group "玖玖爱枢♀" posted their scanlation of the chapter as they've been doing every month, so you can see the images here, or read it if you speak Chinese. :D
Also, Senbyafanatic kindly translated from the Chinese scanlation, so here's the link to her post also.

♥♥♥

I'll drop by when I have a moment to fangirl the chapter with you all, hopefully also when I'm less tired, and with some luck I'll get to draw some fanarts still this month. Last month passed so fast! ^^;;;

I've also been dying to make a post with some more info about the VK fangame I'm making (the one where you get to play as Yuuki and try to get the guys), though that's also progressing at half-dead-snail speed due to lack of time. ^^;

But hopefully sometime this month or the next I get to do some more VK stuff. ^^

See you later~! ^-^/ ♥♥♥

I'm really looking forward to this chapter, and to finding out more about Takuma and Kaname's relationship. Aah.

Thank you for the summary. :)

Fangame!! I don't care how long it takes to be completed, just knowing that there will be one in the future is wonderful. ^^

Ruka was so sad, and yet so cute in this chapter. "I hope all this lovely Luca time is not some build up for her dying horribly to torture us readers." ... Σ( ̄。 ̄ノ) omg... I didn't even think about that... Akatsuki! Protect her! [and then elope!]

Sara. When you put her character that way, of being incapable of giving herself to Takuma, I do think that it is wise to see her words as manipulation... Buuuut, I can't help myself from now seeing her through Takuma's eyes... and seeing her through his eyes actually makes me kind of feel sorry for her. Somehow, her having an eye on him since he was a child and her saying that she has "always wanted" him... made me inclined to believe her, at least just a tiny bit [but maybe I am also being tricked, lol]. I still have enormous doubt in her, but Takuma's inner monologue was so passionate... Really, it sent me reeling. The possessiveness seemed so dark and intense... while his noting the loss of her parents as, "when she was just starting to make sense of the world," really gives off such a tender vibe... Moth to a flame, iron sand drawn and bound to magnetism... *nosebleed*... I don't think Takuma is off in describing her feelings as a twisted love. As a pureblood, I'd imagine she hasn't had a genuine relationship and really doesn't know how to feel or express emotion properly. She can be charming, but that's to be expected of someone forced to act in front of the vampire society. But whether that love Takuma feels from her is just a warped imitation or a misguided interpretation is lost on me.

I still don't trust her, but I've... kind of.. accepted her place beside Ichijou. I fear this small allowance will come to bite me later. lol

About the ending, I admit I had a moment of trepidation at Zero accepting Sara's deal, but then I realized – disregarding his flashback – that Zero wouldn't join someone with revenge on his mind in the first place. What I mean is, it is not in his character to involve others in such a personal matter, and I think this is as personal as it gets. I'm sure that, if he were to ever exact any sort of revenge, it would be by his own means. But I do agree that he's using some forethought with Yuuki's words in mind. Of course he would never betray her, but I also think he knows he won't be losing anything by doing this for Sara. He will protect her as Yuuki asked, but he will also make her think that he's on her side when in fact, the only pureblood's side he would ever take is Yuuki's... Yeah, I'm sure trying to use Sara wouldn't do the association any good, but at least she would be easier to keep an eye on. I'm sure she wouldn't be able to overthrow or control the hunters, either, sooo... Veeeerrrry interesting.

I think Yuuki saying she knows the weak points of vampires to Zero is just her way of reassuring him that she will be able to protect herself if the worse case scenario were to ever present itself, which, of course I don't think would ever happen [at least not now]. But after what Zero just learned, he is thinking only the worse. It's sweet, really, because it seems as if he was close to saying something to dissuade her.

Oh yes, and I, too, do love Yuuki being grabby!! O(≧∇≦)O

"Yeah, I'm sure trying to use Sara wouldn't do the association any good, but at least she would be easier to keep an eye on."

I can't help but wonder if Sara requested his help intentionally, to make other hunters regard him as siding with the purebloods and distrust him. They've already shown what they think of the whole 'protecting purebloods from Kaname' business when they declared mutiny against Kaien Cross. Then we saw how angry Yagari was about Touma residing in their headquarters. In addition, Sara didn't seem to be scared one bit and expressed regrets when Kaname left, so the reason behind her request couldn't be a genuine search for protection, imho. And I can't imagine that she was worried about her harem, either.

Here we end up talking again, this time it's here :) I'll reply to your PM a bit later, it will take quite a lot of thought and writing :)

As usual, it was a pleasure reading your summary :)

And I'm so glad it exists, because I always have a problem reading manga for some reason. For example, I believed that Zero's last words 'It's a deal' were addressed to Yuuki. I never occured to me that his talk to Yuuki was merely a flashback and that after that there was a switch back to Sara. I wish Hino-sensei would make it clear by writing "IT'S A FLASHBACK! AND HERE IT ENDS!" in big bold letters at such pages :)

And I wouldn't recognize the moment of the talk with Ruka, either. So it was right after telling Yuuki about the Hooded Woman... There it goes, it looks like his decision is linked to the Hooded Woman, after all. Although I have to question why he suddenly took that decision after relieving his past, as if before that he never even thought about his past and only with Yuuki he finally had a chance to relieve it.

And now it really looks like he's going to kill himself at the end, turning Yuuki human, all things point at that. It may sound stale to us, the VK community has been discussing this for ages and some consider it 'too obvious to be a true ending', but I'm sure that most people in Japan who read VK aren't actually die-hard fans enough to endlessly speculate about stuff. So for the majority such an ending will be rather surprising.

It reminds me how in Harry Potter fandom people had already deducted what was going to happen in the last book CORRECTLY before it was released. They deducted things that were meant to be a huge surprise and unexpected twists. And I'm sure they would've been quite shocking, had I not read their deductions and ideas in the forum, I'd never see those things coming. I was actually disappointed while reading, because I knew I could've been entertained by the book much more if I didn't already know about the big surprises.

"IT'S A FLASHBACK! AND HERE IT ENDS!"

Ha! I would love if every story did that. xD

And I think that, maybe Kaname first thought that, from his visions of the past, he was meant to start over with Yuuki, which is why he hesitated and lingered with her for longer than he had planned. But then, when his old memories were drudged up, he felt a renewed determination to do what he had decided to do already. It does seem like it's all coming back to the hooded woman. Maybe what he is doing now is his destiny? His reason for being awakened...? Decimating the pureblood population, and with Zero's existence of a cursed twin... maybe Yuuki and Zero's destiny's are entwined with his? Whether that be to stop him or aid him could go either way now, what with their differing takes on vampires. But if Yuuki were to be turned human by the end, then it seems their destinies may be to aid him along on his destructive path... Again, maybe not intentionally...

And I reckon you're dead on with that summation. Within every fandom, speculation runs rampant to the point we doubt our own take on a story. We want to be surprised, but with how deeply we look into things, we might understand the story more than we would like to believe. I know I've been looking into VK waaay to much and from waaay to many angles. :P

I'm kind of weirded out by some of the new developments. But anyways, just wanted to mention that it's not the first time Sara has said that she wants Takuma. Back when she first picked him up while he was unconscious, she said the same thing, adding that she had always wanted to ask Ichiou to make a gift of him to her.^^; So I don't know, I don't think the developments between them are that sudden.

I'm going to go out on a limb and make the claim that Sara's "interest" in Kaname is envy and fascination rather than romantic interest. It kind of seems like she wants to be Kaname. Kaname had the Night Class, so she goes out and makes herself her own set of groupies. Kaname is "the king," so she wants to dethrone him and become queen. Kaname has a best friend Takuma who treats him normally, so she goes and steals his best friend. Kaname went to school, so she decides to go to school as well. Kaname has Zero as his ace in the hole, and lo and behold, Sara seems to be making a play for him too. When she says she wants to be smarter than Rido and Shizuka and to not become like Ouri, I think it's clear she means that she wants to overcome the pureblood weakness of losing the will to live. Rido and Shizuka had one thing to which they devoted themselves to, and once they lost the objects of their devotion, they also lost the will to live. But Sara didn't even have anyone to start with, so she probably felt especially vulnerable. Meanwhile, Kaname the Ancestor has outlived all his peers, and by all appearances, looks like he isn't going down to anyone without a fight. So I wonder if Sara doesn't think Kaname has the pureblood conundrum all figured out. Obviously, she has bigger plans going on with her blood tablets. But her end game, I think, is to "solve" this pureblood dilemma, and she's going to try to pick Kaname's brain in order to do so.

I had to agree with you . Since a long time ( almost the start of the second arc ) ; I did got the feeling Takuma was in love with Sara . Because even he had the opportunity to run away . He continues to be there for her . Acting more as a double agent as his loyalty to both Sara and Kaname were divided . And as you said ,when Sara said she wanted Asato to give Takuma to her . It was more than a reason for her to get easy access to a pharmaceutical industry . Her original intention could be all along to ask Asato to give Takuma as her lover . Due to the impossibility for her to marry Takuma . As he was a Noble vampire and her a pureblood .

A good possibility of Sara wanting to be Queen is her desire to be the same as Kaname . But obviously not in the romantic way as you clearly expresssed .

A weird reason for Sara wanting to be Queen could be for her changing the rules of purebloods only marry between themselves . For her to marry Takuma instead . Very pulled by the hair ; but funny if true . All those troubles done by her just to marry the man she loves . How romantic in an ironic way .

I supposed a lot of fans are dissapointed by this chapter . Because they never expected finding Sara loving Takuma . As real love . Nothing pretended .

Another thing is . If both Sara and Takuma are in love with each other . What will be the outcome ? Because this means both will die or both will live and end together . I don't think many fans liked any of the above . But I did am thinking for a while Sara will not die . I would laugh if Sara ended reformed after all those things she made . The bad thing is I don't want Takuma to die nor suffer for her if she dies .

I'm in Takuma x Kaname mode now!!! They were ex-lovers, well, at least in my mind!! My most favorite page is when Kaname put his sword on Takuma's neck. Oh, I love Kaname's bony hand *squeal* The picture is just so perfect!!! Can't say how grateful I'm feeling to Hino-sensei! She's a great inspiration, and she always makes me love him more when I thought I couldn't love him any more than I already had. Just like the time she showed me Kaname with long hair. Oh my, she has thrown me in ecstasy again!!!

Will Hino-sensei ever let me see Kaname in kimono???????? I will still keep my fingers and toes crossed for that day!

haha. Enjoying your fangirling, as usual. Had to laugh.

So, do you think that Kaname thinks (or is aware) that Takuma's affection for him was actually the attraction a vampire has for a pureblood, and thus, he did not believe it as a true friendship? Could Ruka/Luca's attraction for Kaname be the same or deeper? Kaname calls her by her given name. Why do you think he calls Luca by her given name but still calls Takuma Ichijou?

Kaname probably knows that Takuma gave info about him to Sara, especially if Takuma is openly siding with Sara.

This would be so sad, especially since just before Takuma's fight with Ichiou, didn't he assure Kaname of his loyalty to him? :(

The scene quickly moves back to Sara, and oh surprise, rather than expressing any relief in the fight having been avoided, she is instead acting disappointed that Kaname escaped her trap.

How is it possible that Sara did not realize that her trap would not have destroyed Kaname in his current form? Do purebloods not realize when one is in a form that cannot mortally wound them?

Just from your summary, I am loving Luca more. :)

Thank you for the summary and the scans!

Sagakure, you're a life saver and I mean it. I had so many questions and so much confusion while/after reading this chapter. Thanks to your brilliant insight and explanation, I now understand everything much better. I'm glad you're back even if it's just when you have the time.

I loved and hated this chapter.

Obviously the main plotline was the showing of the depth of Ichijo's and Sara's relationship.

If you actually look at the art, Takuma looks trance-like and not himself. Could his 'love' for her be because she force-fed him her blood?

Her blood-tablets had mind-controlling qualities, so if you think about it drinking blood directly from her could result in mind-control.

Takuma has not been his normal self at all.......

Ah, I'm so saaad. I've been an Ichijou fangirl for all this time. :'(

Please let it be mind-control.
However, the art was hot ^///^

What a tiny Kitten! It must be only a few weeks old, maybe even a new born. -^_^- Awwwww little kitty kitty!

This makes me want to update my Vampire Knight/Kitten fanfic 'Untill the Sun Rises Over the Moon'. Unfortunately, computer problems will likely keep that from happaning any time soon. T-T Chapter three Is nerely done, though, so I'll try to find a way to post it.

The kitten in Hino's pic is probably symbolic of one of Yuki's harem boys. (Or maybe even all of them lol) In this case, though, I think the kitten's is meant to be Kaname. With Yuki nurturing/saving his soft, lonely, needy and vulnerable kitty self. :-:

How very cute.<3

While the fans are focusing on what are going on in this newest chapter, I'm just sitting in a corner, squealing happily with my new discovery: Kaname is left-handed! I don't know if other fans think it's important or they have already known it, but I've just figured it out and want to share it with everyone! *feels embarrassed that couldn't see it sooner*

I spent days staring at the page of Kaname putting the sword on Takuma's neck, and couldn't help feeling kind of strange why Kaname was using his left hand! So I returned to the previous chapters to check how often he used his left hand/right hand. It turned out that he used both hands comfortably. But I tend to believe he is left-handed.

He also held the sword by left hand when killing Hanadagi and Aido's father, though held it in right hand when giving blood to Rido (but he wasn't attacking anyone at that time). I found many evidences:

When he returned the pearl to Aido at his parents' funeral, it's left hand.

When day-class girls were giving chocolates to night-class boys, Yuuki dropped down her chocolate for Kaname, Zero picked it up and threw it to him, he caught it by left hand (automatic reflex).

He bit Shizuka from behind, on the left side of her neck (Zero bit the right side of Yuuki's neck when he was behind her, and bit Kaname on the left side of his neck when in front of him)

When he raised a hand to kill the Vampire Council, it's left hand.

But then, when he appeared in front of Zero, Zero used bloody rose vines to attack his right hand! Wasn't it a wrong move? Anyway Kaname didn't use his left hand to fight back. I assume he didn't really mean to kill Zero as said.

And in my favorite picture, Kaname and the blue bird, the bird is also on his left hand XD

I've often wondered if he was right handed or left handed too. ^^/

I strongly think he is right handed. Because when he writes as well as when he draws, he always uses his right hand, and those tend to be the definitive brain-hand link that tells whether someone is right handed or left handed. That is the main thing that indicates a person's primary hand, normally.

As a child when he tried to fight Rido with the sword, he also wielded it right handed instead of left handed.

I think the reason why he's currently using the sword in his left hand is because he's letting it damage him so much, and as a result, if he used the right hand he would be unable to do anything else with that hand such as writing or whatever else he might need. (You can't grip a pen with nothing but bones stripped of flesh after all. ^^; Possibly can't also do all sorts of other things you might need to do with your main hand.
Like masturb - Errr, brush your teeth? XD; *is shot* Well, all sorts of everyday things.)

So it would make sense to keep the damage limited to the hand he uses less.

Also, for sword-fighting and such arts, people at a higher level try to be proficient with both hands, so the hand he uses to write would be more indicative of which is his 'preferred' hand. ^^ Two-handed swords are also something you're supposed to be able to use with either hand anyway, to a certain point.

The left hand/side/arm is a symbol of the heart too, which might be why the bird is there, and why Kaname who is suffering so much in his heart by pushing Yuuki away etc., is also injured on the left physically, by the sword, the representation of this self-destructive path of his. ^^ That may play a role in it.

So I think perhaps he is right handed but the left hand is injured for symbolic reasons & for him avoiding to ruin his right hand in case he needs it. ^^

I just wanted to add that if it wasn't for you SGK I'd never guess that Takuma was in love with Kaname. Too subtle for me.
