VAMPIRE KNIGHT GUILTY IS UTTERLY AMAZING!!!

The first episode just finished playing on TV Tokyo. *0*//

Well, right now I'm utterly fangirly and bouncy, so it's hard to have an objective opinion, I'll have to rewatch later, but it rocked. *-*

I think it had MUCH better animation than last season, but again I'll have to rewatch to form a proper opinion when I'm less high on VK moe. XD XD (That's difficult, hahaha.)

I'll start rambling without aim, so, uhm, Just check back in a little, I'll have updated this post with a sort of a summary. *-*// Done~! :D :D

GYAH, IT WAS SO AWESOME!

MY GOSH, it was so awesome. *-*

I think they have a bigger budget than last season, the animation seemed better. *-*

Kaname's hair was much more detailed, and no longer looked deformed. In fact, Kaname looked AMAZING throughout the episode.

Just as I had said ever since episode 13 of last season aired, the blood drinking scene was indeed an added scene and not at all a replacement of the scene in chapter 30 of the manga. We already got partial confirmation of that by seeing the fight from chapter 30 in the PV/trailer for season two, but this episode further confirms it, by driving home the point that Kaname is a pureblood and his blood is powerful enough to push back Zero's fall for now, but it won't fully cure him, only the blood of Shizuka, who turned him could have fully turned him.

And it calls back to the OP of last season: remember how there was a scene where Zero looks sad and reaches for Yuuki, but she fails to grab his hand?
Well, this season there's the same scene with Kaname looking sad and reaching for her, and she fails to grab his hand.

Yuuki, pick one of them already, they're both suffering. XD;; Better yet, pick both and start a harem so everybody is happy. XD XD

And he's looking all sexy in his trenchcoat from the manga! <3
We also see vampire Yuuki with the artemis not-yet-scythe in the OP. *-*/

And we see Rido briefly, or more exactly, a Rido!bat. XD (If you've read chapter 43, you know how those are made, as Kaname made one. X3)

The only thing that bugs me about the OP and ED, and it's not about quality but because it makes me worry, is the strong theme of Yuuki not being able to get either of them, and then being all alone in a mountain/desert/large expanse of what looks very much like the ashes/sand/crystals left after a vampire dies.
I hope it's just for the pretty and scary effect, and that it's not at all to indicate that the tragic end of the series would be both Kaname and Zero dying.
I was particularly worried because of the OP scene where Kaname reaches for Yuuki looking so so sad, and she fails to take his hand... in the next scene, sshe's pouring the ashes out between her fingers. ;-; It better just be sand or something, not dead!Kaname. T_T

It's probably just to play with our natural fears due to the upcoming Rido issue etc, since at this point, the ending of the manga is still very far, with the whole second arc still coming soon and all. :D


The episode starts with the day class girls shoving Yuuki around while waiting for the Moon Dorm doors to open. Yuuki is having lots of trouble and thinking of the fact that she can't really hold them back just by herself.

When the doors open and the Night Class comes out, Aidou is being all, well, idol (XD), and the fangirls go crazy and shove Yuuki, who falls into someone's outstretched arm. She quickly turns around going "Oh, I'm so sorry Kaname-senpai!!" automatically expecting he was the one who caught her. (That was adorable on so many levels~! XD I think maybe he's been catching her a lot as she fell the previous days while Zero was locked out/in danger of falling to level E? We're not sure how long has passed, but it seemed like it was some time. Edit: I'd forgotten at first, but Yuuki mentions later that he was away for a week.
The fangirls had also commented they were happy they hadn't seen Zero in a while XD;;)
It turns out it wasn't Kaname, but Zero, who is back!! :D
(And who later on in the episode angsts about the fact that Yuuki mistook him for Kaname, hahaha. XD He's wondering if Kaname's presence in him is so obvious that even Yuuki felt it as if it was Kaname when it was him... that's a very interesting question for blood-drinking in general, especially from purebloods. *-*/)

Yuuki wants to ask Zero so many things about how his wound is and what happened and all, but she can't bring herself to speak. Then, we see Kaname, and Zero and him exchange soulful looks.

They're going at it following the manga storyline but with some changes. It's in part rearranging the order of some stuff so it fits with the added blood drinking scene from last season etc., but there are a few added scenes and changes as well.

And an interesting developpement that sheds some light over the scene we see in the trailer, where for a moment, we see flash the Kuran crest held by a bunch of chains, and someone, possibly Kaname on the ground on his back, behind the chains. It's shown just for a bit and not super detailed, so it's hard to know for sure, but it could be Kaname chained inside himself, the ancestor, which Rido forced into that body/reawakened by force and made prisoner of the seal.
(Or it could be Rido performing the ritual to do that to Kaname, because they kinda look alike. XD;; But due to the person being on his back and behind the chains, I'd think it's more likely that it's Kaname... I'm hoping they'll shown the scene more up close later on. They showed it twice in this episode, but not very detailedly either times.)


When Zero drank Kaname's blood, he saw that image in a flash. (Not in last season, it's in this episode when he's remembering and wondering what that was. :D)

They mention the fact that Kaname's blood is now living in Zero, and Zero can feel Kaname in him (this was also mentioned in the manga, although only later on.)

As a result, when Maria mentions Rido (well, she doesn't says his name, it's just the same scene from the manga where she wakes up and tells Zero about how there is someone behind the scenes screwing up everything for the purebloods), at the mention of that Zero gets again a flash from Kaname's blood and is in pain/disturbed for a bit.
I wonder if Kaname is also in pain at the mention of Rido, or if it's just because Kaname's blood somehow knew that Maria was talking about Rido, (or if it's because Zero is still getting used to having Kaname's blood in him and so it's still a bit hard).

Also, Zero is more powerful now. And in the scene later where he confronts Kaname about "It's you who killed Shizuka, isn't it?" and where, just like in the manga, Zero asks him "I heard that a pureblood's blood and flesh will grant an immense power... so, did you get that power?", unlike in the manga, Zero has also drank from a pureblood now, so Kaname replies "You speak of it as if it was a mere thing you heard... You should know the answer to this question better than anyone, shouldn't you?" X3 ♥
So yeah, it confirms that Zero's power went up with Kaname's blood. :D

Normally, in the manga, there was a few extra lines in that scene, with Kaname saying "You didn't get to drink the blood that would have saved you [Shizuka's]... and I even left enough of it for you."
In the last season, they moved those lines to the scene where Kaname gives Zero his blood (which made total sense, and which is also what made me know it was an added scene rather than a replacement of the chapter 30 one), so to still make the confrontation scene interesting in this one, in the part after which Kaname says, just like in the manga, "I envy you, who are able to be next to your loved one protecting her", in the anime version Kaname adds "but now that my blood is what is keeping you alive, it is as if I was the one protecting her. Since it's thanks to my power that you are able to do so."

I think it was a nice addition even though I was surprised to see Kaname sounding more vindicative here while in the original scene in the manga he sounded more melancholic than that in that scene.

It also happens in the woods rather than in the corridor at school, but that's because the scene where the guards from the council come to try to kill Zero happened just before.

They are either skipping or moving elsewhere the little part where there was a vampire drinking from a day class girl, in the manga, and in which Ichijou plays detective with Yuuki & co. to serve as a distraction while Kaname moves in the catch the culprit.

This might be because they needed to up the tension already due to the whole situation, and as such, the scene where Yuuki says "Until you admit that Zero isn't guilty, I won't speak to you anymore" to Kaname, in the anime it's not about the "who's drinking from the girl" situation, but about Shizuka's death. Yuuki in the anime seems to guess already that it's Kaname.

When he tried to caress her face, she pulled back, I was sad. ;-; (And Luca got angry, hahahaha. She should be jealous if Kaname did manage to caress Yuuki, but instead she's more concerned about Kaname's feelings perhaps. ♥ XD)

Yuuki then tells Kaname that Zero didn't do it and all. Kaname tells her that he has no intention on making Zero a scapegoat.

(BTW: if he intended to make him a scapegoat, he wouldn't have rescued him from the council moments before. :D
He simply can't openly say that he killed Shizuka, because while Zero did have reasons to do so, he didn't --other than protecting Yuuki-- and the council would probably imprison him for the murder of another pureblood (even Rido was imprisoned at one point), which would leave Yuuki unprotected when Rido came.
People often diss Kaname for having covered up that he killed Shizuka, but considering how tied his hands are with the whole political situation and how Cross Academy/Night Class depends so much on him to function, if he did openly say it was him, he'd be forced to make a move against the council MUCH sooner, and thus destroy Yuuki's current peaceful haven, something he couldn't do.
So all in all, he chose the least problematic move, that of leaving things open, and once the council assumed Zero did the kill, to move in to protect Zero, a position he could take without endangering Cross Academy too much.)

Okay, so back to the summary. XD

I'm going by memory here, and I was crazy fangirly so once I rewatch sometime later I'll come back to make sure I didn't remember any of the quotes wrong.
If my hyper & fangirly memory serves me well:

After Kaname says he doesn't intends to put the blame on Zero, Yuuki says "In that case, admit it!" ("admit that Zero is innocent")

Kaname says "I admit it, if that's what you want."
But Yuuki isn't satisfied with that. Maybe she wants a public admission. D: D: Hopefully not one that Kaname is the one who did it.

In any case, she is angry, and tells Kaname that she won't speak to him again until he admits it, and storms off. ;__;

In the manga scene, this happens in front of chairman Cross, who then makes fun of the situation and laughs until he sees the look on Kaname's face and suddenly shuts up. *LOL* XD XD

In the anime, it's Ichijou who starts laughing (saying it's like a child's fight.... but Kaname is totally unguarded when it comes to Yuuki, so in a way, he does falls for a child's fight as much as Yuuki does XD;), and Kaname turns around and (accidentally? XD) tears a hole in the tree next to Ichijou, with his mind.
Normally, this scene happened indoors in the manga, it's when Ichijou mentioned that Yuuki felt Kaname was different, and when Kaname turns, the wall next to has a hole now...

This is because he's used to controlling more his own power, and now that he also has Shizuka's it's hard to constantly keep it all in. In the manga scene, he mentioned that when his control/grip over his own mind is a bit less tight, the power accidentally overflows, (usually it's when his emotions act up, as we've seen before).


There's also a lovely scene with Cross and Yagari in the garden.
OH, And chairman fans, you'll love the OP scene in which his hair comes loose and then is down. XD<333

In the garden scene, Cross is gardening while Yagari is coming back from class, and Cross thanks him for his work, then they talk about Zero. Cross says Yagari must have noticed, the reason why Zero was able to survive despite having nearly fell to level E. (Yagari had been desperate and was ready to kill Zero for real this time, if you remember last season).
In other words, Cross implies that Yagari must have realized that Kaname snuck in and let Zero take his blood, though he doesn't openly says it.

Yagari retorts that he doesn't knows what Cross is talking about because "I'm not as a powerful a vampire hunter [as you are], so I miss a lot of things." XD<3

He then proceeds to diss the gaudy apron Cross is wearing, to which Cross is all hurt and saying "but it's so cute!!"

And Zero x Yuuki fans will be delighted to know that the famous almost-kiss scene is in this chapter!

Zero goes to shower, but the bathroom is already taken by Yuuki, so he lays down in the couch in the living room to wait, and then falls asleep. (In the manga, that scene happened after he was sleeping in the infirmary, but because of the other changes in the anime, it works better this way than if they had moved it back to the infirmary XD;).

He was thinking of when, earlier in the episode, Yuuki had offered him her blood (she was sad that she is always protected by Kaname and Zero instead of being able to protect too, so she wanted to do the only thing she could do, and offered him her neck thinking he must need to feed since there had been several days while he was away.)

When she did, he got angry and ran off, but now he's thinking back on it and feeling bad about the fact that even though Kaname's blood is supposed to have helped with his thirst, he still desired Yuuki's blood... then he sleeps and dreams of accidentally killing her, and her dying in his arms.

He wakes up all freaking out, and Yuuki is there drying her hair. Then, it's like in the manga, he hugs her all afraid that she had died, and she's worried about whether he's okay or not (even more so due to the recent thing with him being away for a while), and then, he almost kisses her, then pulls back and just drops his head on her shoulder. :)

It ends with Yagari and Cross talking, while looking at the hole Kaname made in the tree. XD;
The Hunters Society sent a letter for Zero... :X

I'm still all fangirly bouncy, so my summary is a bit messy and I might have forgotten to mention some parts, but all in all, it was a rather interesting episode. :D
I feel so sad for Kaname, with what Yuuki told him, but I so look forward to the party scene later on. XD XD;;;


Considering how the anime will inevitably catch up with the manga soon, I'm wondering what they'll do... and wheter the rearranging of scenes will be enough or if they'll start to add stuff. I'd love if they animated some of the little bonuses or even some of the drama CD material. :D (In fact, on the last DVD of season one, there will be a bonus mini-anime episode, with one of the comical bonuses from the manga! The dorm president election that Aidou started. :D)

As long as it doesn't deviates from the manga, I'll be happy. The animation group working on VK and the director are great fans of Hino-sensei and have huge respect for her work, from what she said before in interviews and free talks, so I'm hoping for the best. :D
