HOLY CRAP!! *0* AMAZING VAMPIRE KNIGHT NEWS!!
OMG
AMAZING NEWS, EVERYBODY!!I still have to get the magazine with the interview (because it's one of those "so great I can't believe it/am afraid it's a dream" types of things, though I'm pretty sure the info is accurate).
EDIT: OKAY, GUYS, IT'S CONFIRMED!!
*got to read the interview in the magazine*
*HAPPY DANCE*
In a recent interview in the magazine ぱふ (it's a japanese magazine that does interviews with mangaka etc, and this was in the issue that came out this week), they interviewed Hino-sensei, and asked the inevitable question, which I translated for you below...:
"So, you've said before that you started Vampire Knight with the ending already all set in your mind. Could you tell us how close to the end the story is?"
And she replied:
"We're roughly near the end of the first part of the series, and I planned two parts."
BEST NEWS THIS YEAR. *0*
I was so afraid the series would end really soon.... OMG OMG OMG OMG *screams herself hoarse*
I'm crossing my fingers so much. *0* Though I'm sure it will be utterly awesome.
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT AHEAD WAH~!
The monthly speed of the manga would make me worry a bit that the anime would go fillery at one point or another, but right now I'm too overjoyed to possibly worry about such matters. XD XD
Edit: Onto less spectacular but also lovely stuff, as I read the interview, some things caught my attention more than others, so here they are for you to enjoy as well. :D
They're not all in the order they were in on the interview, because at first I just read while fangirling, then I started to write down stuff in this edit, then ended up writing more, and went back to fetch cool parts I hadn't added before, so it got a bit out of the order it was originally in the interview, but that shouldn't matter.
I'm all moe about the fact that when asked "What image do you have in mind when you draw the vampires-drinking-blood scenes?" she replied:
"I think of the idea of carnivores vs. herbivores [as in predator vs. prey]. With the exception of Kaname.... with him it would be the image of a kiss instead." <-- *FANGIRLS, FLAILS* XD XD<333
When asked what scenes were the most popular/were received with most oomph by the readers, she said [highlight to read, spoilers]: it was the scene where Zero attacked Yuuki, the scene where he drank from Kaname, the scene where Kaname drank from Yuuki and the scene where Yuuki drank from Kaname. *-* It's not surprising. *fangirls those scenes immensely*
She doesn't always gets detailed feedback, since there's no specific surveys on what readers think of this or that stuff, but she said it was based on the many letters sent by the fans. :D
She said she's always been kind of annoyed/not fulfilled by how in so many stories vampires are all weak and fry in the sun or freak out with crosses and other religious stuff, so she wanted to make sure her vampires were different and didn't have those weaknesses, also in hopes that way they'd appear more cool and strong that way. (I moe this so much. I've always loved those differences between VK vampires and other vampire stories.)
She wanted to put more the accent on the fact that they look perfectly human but have fangs, and have that more scary side that they have to constantly struggle with so they won't be a predator only. :D
She also said her favorite vampire things that she recommended were "Blade" and the "Vampire Hunter D" novels.
When asked if she had requested many things of the anime production team, she said that not really (The director is reaaally attached to the VK manga and wanted the anime as close as possible to the manga. :D So the team is very respectful of the manga.), other than asking them to keep the drama CD seiyuus if it was possible since people were already used to them, and a thing about the art:
She doesn't has confidence in her art style (this makes me cry XD XD) and was convinced that it would never work as a style in anime, so originally, she had asked the anime production team to do the anime in an art style completly different and really far from the manga.
THANK HEAVENS they didn't want to do it that way, and wanted to be as close as possible to her style. *rotfl* There were many exchanges for several months and finally both sides settled with the look the characters ended up having on the anime. :D
She said that otherwise, the only request she made to the anime production team was in a single scene that exists only in the anime, where she asked "please, please really make sure this scene doesn't looks like it's ●●" <-- She didn't say what the "●●" was, it was the 'censored' mark type of thing that is used in japanese when people don't want to spoil a plot thing or keep something secret etc.
(It's probably in case people is reading the magazine before watching the anime.)
There's technically no way to possibly know for sure which was the scene she was talking about, but....... I think we all agree it was a certain scene at the end of episode 13, since it's the only major different scene from the manga. ;DDDDD
What I'm all running in circles wondering is 'make sure it doesn't looks like it's' what?! XD ............. could she be saying "make sure it doesn't looks like it's yaoi" (*LOL* Most likely not what she meant. XD XD) or more likely "make sure it doesn't looks like it's the scene from chapter 30 all the way", since if it was they wouldn't be able to do that scene in the normal course of the story later. *-*
Considering only one scene majorly differed from the manga, I'm pretty sure it really is THAT scene. And since Hino-sensei specifies that the scene was made as an extra anime scene in addition to the normal manga stuff (so, she didn't say they were taking a scene from the manga and changing the spot it should be in), this pretty much confirms my idea that it's an added thing, and that chapter 30 will still happen the same way as in the manga, later in the anime. *-*
Highlight for spoilers: Well, technically, we know that Kaname's blood can slow Zero's level E fall, but it can't stop it completly since Kaname is not the one who turned Zero, so it was a given that he'd have to keep giving him blood at one point or another... so the anime having added that scene really doesn't changes much from the manga. *-* And it's so much moe<3333
The interviewer asked what characters other than Kaname, Yuuki and Zero she'd like to explore more in the bonus little stories etc (I'm amused by the fact the interviewer is a fan too and tried to push for the chairman's past as a hunter XD).
Hino-sensei said that time and space (in the volumes) constraints make that she can't know what will be possible for sure, but she'd very much like to go more in detail on the night class characters, the chairman and Yagari. :D
She was asked about her schedule in the monthly episodes, which is always an interesting question for artists since each person does that differently.
For her, for the past six months roughly, it's been 7 to 9 days of "name" (name = basically the story-board like basic preparation of the whole page layouts and text and all prior to drawing) + 4 to 5 days of drawing/pencilling + 3 to 4 days of inking and finishing up all the details & tones etc.
She said she used to be slower and has gotten faster lately, by necessity since she's gotten busier with the anime and all. :)
(I'M FREAKING AMAZED by that part of the interview. Kaname's hair takes me freaking forever when inked, and and and... she does 30+ pages inked in 3 to 4 days..........
WAH I NEED TO UP MY FANART SPEED. O_o *feels so inferior*)
She said hasn't taken time off in 7 to 8 months. ^^;; *clings, hopes she'll be okay and not crack under the crazy workload like many mangaka do* ^^;;;
(I'm guessing that the rest of the days she is probably busy with stuff related to anime, fixing things for the book releases, promotional stuff and all sorts of things like that, since if you add up there are days left.)
They asked her what genre of manga she would like to do what she's done with VK, and she said she sometimes thinks of it vaguely, but she can't really do any concrete thinking on that right now, because she has to focus on the current story until it finishes. :) She said she was already that way with the previous manga. :D
However, she did say that the publisher and her joke around saying they should do an "AU Vampire Knight" one-shot chapter afterwards, where Kaname, Yuuki and Zero meet in completely different circumstances etc. (Since they were joking around, it's unlikely it would really ever be done, but maybe we can have hope. HOW I WISH TO SEE THAT. XD *all curious*)
Earlier in the interview, she had said that before she came up with the idea of putting the story for VK in a dorm setting, she had thought of making it about the vampires vs, the hunters, but it would have become a terribly bloody and messy story, much too violent for Lala, and way hard to keep drawing on a long run. The publisher was suggesting that "lots of really beautiful guys" and "a school setting" would be great, so, in the end, Hino-sensei ended up having the idea of Cross Academy etc. *-*/
(Otherwise, maybe the story would have been with Kaname's side vs. Zero's side...? I wonder if Yuuki would have been raised on the hunters' side... though perhaps she didn't come up with the characters yet by the time she was thinking of the vampires vs. hunters idea, so we will never know, unless someone asks more in detail in a future interview. XD)
Edit to add something more:
Yesterday, I was so hyper as I read the article, and devoured it so fast that when my eyes hit the ad for the VK novel at the bottom of the page, my brain went into automatic "Page 2 is over, rush for page 3!!" mode, and I failed to see that there was still some text to the left of the ad......... XD;;;;
Today I went back to take another look at the article, and realized I hadn't seen that chunk, in my urge to proceed to page 3 the previous day. XD;; *fails* *rotlf*
So, I had missed some interesting questions:
When asked if there was any characters or plot elements that she wanted to point out as being interesting in the upcoming chapters, Hino-sensei replied that a new character will be introduced, a vampire girl! She didn't say if it was going to be an important character or just background though. She said she couldn't say much at the moment, it's secret still.
I hope she's just going to be background.... or, could it be in flashbacks, someone in Kaname's past, or Yuuki's ancestor that she's the reincarnation of or something? O_o *wonders wildly, has so many crazed theories* XD
Or perhaps a girl on Rido's side? (We know he had children with various women... *rotfl*)
New characters are awesome too, but I hope Hino-sensei will also bring back characters that were introduced before and that I find have lots of potential, such as lovely Sara Shirabuki, that pureblood vampire that we saw in volume 6. :D She was shown again since then in scenes were they talk about purebloods, and she was indirectly mentioned by Takuma once, but nothing more in depth. I'm pretty sure she'll reappear though, and am looking forward. X3
She can't be the new character though, she was already introduced before.
When asked when she started wanting to become a mangaka, Hino-sensei said that rather than start wanting to, she took the firm decision of becoming one at age 22, so it was more of a "I will become one!" than a "I would want to become one." :D
And finally, when asked to send a message to each of the three main characters of VK (the interviewer added "since you are their creator and thus a little their parent" XD♥), Hino-sensei started by saying "Yuuki, I'll try my hardest too!" and then about Zero she said that she couldn't really easily tell him anything, so she would be sending him her feelings from her heart instead of words.
(after all the horrible stuff that happened to poor Zero, I understand what she means. XD;;; *lol* I would feel kinda guilty if I was the author. XD XD;; *lol*)
When she got to Kaname, she stopped and told the interviewer that she suddenly realized that she was at risk of saying terribly spoilery things if she sent them serious messages, and as such, she couldn't really send them those messages after all. O_O
So instead, she said she'd just send him a non-serious message, and said "You go for it, Kaname!" as a random little message instead.
O_O My immediate reaction to that is OMG, PLEASE DON'T DIE KANAME. O_O I hope it's really just major plot stuff for the upcoming battle or whatever that might be spoiled if she told him "fight" or whatever.... I hope it's not something dramatic like a character death or something horrible happening to one of them. ;_________; *can't help but constantly panic* XD;;;
*is very afraid of character deaths, even though she knows there's still many volumes ahead* It's because it's supposed to be such a tragic series from what Hino-sensei said before, and it's supposed to be "a tragic love story", so...... *can't help but fear for their lives* ^^;;; Kaname strikes me as the one most likely to die. ^^;;
Sorry I hadn't translated those bits yesterday. XD;; *still feeling kinda dumb about rushing for page three and not seeing the bit left next to the ad* XD;;
Hopefully it will be of help to the people who saw the interview too and were wondering what was going on in that part. XD

Sorry that I don't have time to translate the whole interview, but at least those were the parts I found most interesting. :D
I found out tonight and didn't have time to go buy myself a copy of the magazine yet, so I read and translated from the magazine scans that Minidori kindly posted online. :D
